St Andrews is a community of around 155,000 people and host for 55,000 jobs. With a timeframe for this monumental project estimated at approximately 50 years, it marks a historical milestone in the development of Perth.
The site covers 7,500ha and is located near the Yanchep and Two Rocks coastal settlements, approximately 60km north of the Perth CBD.
A key platform of the strategy for St Andrews is to create an economic base that goes beyond the regional, reaching national and international markets. This economic activity will be focused in mixed-use activity centres located at the convergence of major movement networks and within easy access of the local residential population.
The St Andrews City Centre will be the primary centre and the major employment anchor for the northern corridor of the metropolitan area. It is planned to accommodate nearly 800,000m2 of commercial and community oriented floorspace and is expected to cater for around 26,000 jobs.
Running north south through the project area will be a mixed-use transit corridor that connects major centres which will be flanked by employment rich land uses.
Roberts Day in association with Calthorpe Associates led the design for St Andrews which responds closely to the natural environment, incorporating major linear parklands, which link the coast with inland reserves and Yanchep National Park, and correspond with significant areas of bushland, landform and species habitat.
The project team includes local Western Australian specialist consultants and renowned international urban planners, Calthorpe and Associates.
