urban infill & mixed use centres

The 4.5ha Belvidere Precinct forms part of the East Perth Redevelopment; Western Australia’s largest inner-city renewal project. Formerly industrial land, Belvidere was rejuvenated to create a cosmopolitan community of 200 lots that articulates a rich and legible urban character combining a mix of housing and commercial development to create a friendly village environment.

The design of the precinct sought to accentuate the site’s physical and cognitive relationship with the Swan River by creating a central linear park that runs perpendicular to the foreshore. The built form is compact, whereby buildings of complementary height, scale and setback frame the adjacent streets and linear parkway. Mixed uses on the south side of the precinct form a logical interface between the residential uses and existing commercial uses.

Today, East Perth is considered one of Australia’s finest urban renewal projects and a model for town planning and environmental rehabilitation, leading the way for similar developments Australia-wide.
