The 20 ha Upton Street Precinct represents a vision for future sustainable development and provides opportunity for social engagement and a high quality of life and place.
An Urban Design Framework Plan was prepared following a collaborative three-day Planning and Design Forum. The plan promotes a high density and mix of uses, and responds to land ownership patterns throughout the precinct. The plan also includes architecture and massing studies resulting in intelligent guidelines to ensure an improvement to the urban form along the coast.
The development of the Framework Plan occurred at a critical time in the strategic growth of the area and the Upton Street Precinct has subsequently been identified as a Major Activity Centre focusing on strong economic growth and development as a community hub.
